Jam of the Day | Broken Social Scene - Golden Facelift

2015 is finally here and Broken Social Scene are back to help you ring in the New Year. They released "Golden Facelift," a track originally recorded for 2010's Forgiveness Rock Record, a few weeks ago on a compilation, but now seems like the perfect time to take its sentiments heart. Here's what the band had to say about the song:

"'Golden Facelift' is a song recorded during the Forgiveness Rock Record sessions, but ultimately did not make the final cut for one reason or another. It is a song we as a band all felt strongly about lyrically and musically and we wanted to give it a proper unveiling when the time was right. We feel that chance is now as this year draws to a close. 2014 has not been without its beauty, but it has also been a year of incredible brutality and all of humanity has a great deal to answer for. Broken Social Scene aims to echo the voice and concerns of the underdog while creating music that will hopefully inspire those who are doing good and useful things for this planet and humankind."

Happy New Year!

Jam of the Day | NO - Leave The Door Wide Open

I first posted about NO all the way back in 2010, when they graciously gave us all access to their much-better-than-giving-it-away-for-free-suggests EP, Don't Worry, You'll Be Here Forever.  I described our Jam of the Day from that record as "subtle, addictive and satisfying as hell."  Beautiful, and eloquently stated 2010 version of me. Really...you've got one hell of an ear, kid.

Well, hot damn they're back, and they're finally ready to release their debut LP, El Prado, in February via Arts & Crafts.  This time around however, our Jam of the Day is addictive and satisfying, but it's anything but subtle. Swirling guitars surround Bradley Hanan Carter's big voice instigating an even bigger chorus, building to one of those moments that'll be goddamn magical in a live setting.

We expect big things. Check it out below.

Jam of the Day | Zeus - Are You Gonna' Waste My Time

I woke up on an island this morning, but not one of those deserted kinds - it's the inhabited kind we have here in the southeast, packed with equal parts Yankee and redneck. Anyway, I got out of bed, wanting something to soundtrack my morning. Everyone else in the house was asleep, and the sun was just starting its ascent into a hazy, blue sky.

But, when I clicked on the below video, I wasn't greeted with something befitting my current experience. It sounded like a dangerous cross between early Supergrass and The James Gang, with some late-era Beatles thrown in just to fuck with my brain a little bit more. It blew my mind so hard, I saw rainbow colored seashells in the sky.

I finished it. Then, I got my ass up and took it back to bed. Thanks for the Jam of the Day, Zeus. I'm going to need to sleep this one off.

Get your mind blown as well. Click below, then go pick up their new album, Burst Visions, when it comes out August 13th. Then, after you're a fan, drive, fly, or walk to Raleigh, NC, for this year's Hopscotch Music Festival to seem them do their thing live.
