When time ain't drawing on me like a blade

Jam of the Day | City and Colour - The Lonely Life
![]() |
What if I did not love you?
Where would that leave me?
We're two lines in, and Dallas Green, aka City and Colour, has me wanting more.
It's the words, sure, but it's also the way he sings them: like he's lived them. This is important, and as a listener, I will never take it for granted. So many times I read how musicians are lauded because they "don't take themselves seriously."
And pardon me, but I'll be serious: What in the hell does that mean?
City and Colour will be performing at The Pageant in St. Louis on October 27th. His new album, The Hurry and the Harm, is available now.

10 to Spin | Courtney Jaye (ACL Edition)
Today is the beginning of the 10th Austin City Limits Music Festival, and we're excited for two big reasons: A) We're covering the festival and B) we get to unveil our latest and greatest 10 to Spin, handpicked by one of our favorite artists, the one and only Courtney Jaye (who we were also fortunate to interview last year).
Jaye and her band will be rocking the BMI stage at ACL from 2:30 to 3:30 on Sunday, and it's bound to be one of the best afternoon sets of the weekend. So, get your booty and your friend's booty there -- she's gonna put on a hell of a show.
Jaye, who'll be releasing a new album in 2012, took some time during her ride down to Austin to create a special ACL-themed 10 to Spin for your ears -- all of the artists she picked will be performing at this year's festival. Happy ACL, everyone, and enjoy!
Thanks for asking me to be a part of the ACL 10 to Spin. I am currently in a van driving to Austin, Texas for our performance at ACL Fest this weekend. I have taken great pride in crafting this list, as it has also been a wonderful way to kill time on this 15-hour drive from Nashville. Starting to go a little stir-crazy, but without further adieu, here is my ACL 10 to Spin.
1. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr. - "Nothing But Our Love"
I love this band. Been listening to their record It's a Corporate World all day in the van.
2. Wanda Jackson - "Fujiyama Mama"
Makes me think about kicking someone's ass (thankfully, no one's ass in this van).
3. Cults - "Go Outside"
Makes me want to dance (yep, in this van...or maybe at the next truck stop).
4. Fleet Foxes - "Mykonos"
Transports me from the van to a mythical island where people speak a foreign language and barter spices, exotic perfumes, gold, and fur.
5. Delta Spirit - "Devil Knows You're Dead"
Makes me want to cry (in the van, in front of my entire band).
6. City and Colour - "As Much As I Ever Could"
Makes me think dirty thoughts (yes, dirty thoughts in the van).
7. Randy Newman - "Little Boxes''
Makes me happy and forget about the fact that we still have seven hours left to go in this damn van until we arrive in Austin.
8. Empire of the Sun - "Tiger By My Side"
Nothing to say other than I simply can't wait to see this band this weekend.
9. Stevie Wonder - "Signed, Sealed, Delivered"
Makes me think about making babies (no, not in this van).
10. My Morning Jacket - "Golden"
Hands down one of the best roadtrip song's of all time.

Jam of the Day | City & Colour - Fragile Bird

The voice is unmistakable – immediately identifiable by those who know it and intensely intriguing to those who don’t. It belongs to Dallas Green, perhaps better known as the man who writes, records, and performs under the moniker of City and Colour. Already renowned across Canada and the UK, thanks to the success of his previous two full length albums, Green is set to propel his profile to a new plateau with the release of his third album, Little Hell, later this month.
The album's first single, and our Jam of the Day,“Fragile Bird,” finds Green relying heavily on those arduous experiences that put all the good times into perspective. Inspired by his wife’s frequent night terrors, the song examines the struggles we all face through tumultuous times. Speaking on the process of writing, Green sums the feeling up best: “I view writing as a very cathartic experience. It’s my way of coping with or processing things happening, whether they’re positive or not, and I think people can often identify with how they’re interpreted."
See if you can identify by downloading it below, and pick up Little Hell when it is released June 7th right here.
