Jam of the Day | Real Estate - Crime

Now I really hope I'm not jinxing anything here, but it would seem that old man Winter is finally loosening his grip on us here in North Carolina. We haven't had it too bad in comparison to our mid-western friends (sorry, Jason), but regardless, I'm just thankful that it's finally starting to warm up.

The coincidence of Real Estate releasing their third album, Atlas, and the burgeoning of spring is most excellent. The masterful combination of jangle-y, guitar-pop hooks and and laid back vocals that kept the band's last album, Days, in my CD player all of last summer is back again, just with a little more refinement. Rhythmic consistency and heavy emphasis on melody allow the band to border on what some might broadly call "easy-listening" without falling into any of the department-store-music pitfalls that genre can entail.

Go outside and enjoy spring and listen to Atlas while you're doing it! No disappointment will be had, I promise (unless you're still knee-deep in snow, in which case, you have my sympathy).

Jam of the Day | Twin Sister - Bad Street

Disco-pop quintet Twin Sister has been on the musical map since late 2008 when they released the first of their two notable EPs, Vampires With Dreaming Kids. The group dropped the Color Your Life EP in 2010, to rave reviews, and many began to wonder when the Long Island based crew would muster up more glittery pop in the form of a full length LP. Well, that wait will soon be over as Twin Sister will release its debut LP, In Heaven, on September 27th (Domino Records). The record's lead single, "Bad Street," serves as an apropos audio introduction to the shimmery, groovy sounds of Twin Sister. An uber-chic, electro-pop tune that fills the mind with bright colors and disco balls, "Bad Street" is all kinds of good. Yeah, baby.

Listen to and download "Bad Street" below. Pick up In Heaven on September 27th.

Jam of the Day | Junior Boys - Banana Ripple

Junior Boys' new record, It's All True, is set for release on June 14th (Domino), and the Ontario, Canada electro-pop duo have themselves an epic lead single in the deliciously titled "Banana Ripple." A nine minute rhythm and blues synth-groove behemoth, "Banana Ripple" will have your head bopping and your body poppin' and lockin'. The track is lengthy to be sure, but it is also refined and self-contained. No beat, blip, or lyric seems out of place or unnecessary. Every second is pure entertainment as the track arcs and peaks ever so slightly and then brings us back down ever so gently.

Un-peel "Banana Ripple" below. Pick up It's All True on June 14th.
