I am very excited to see SiC favorites Frightened Rabbit on Monday; I adore them, and I adore the new record. But I might be even more excited, just a little, to see their tourmates, Nova Scotian indie noisescapers Wintersleep, a band you've probably never heard of before but who you're about to fall in love with on this Frightened Rabbit tour.

Wintersleep, with the release of their sixth LP Hello Hum in 2012, blew me away in 2011, the one and only time I saw them live. They mesmerized all of Kings Barcade in Raleigh, with their wild, wide-open indie rock -- it's the kind of post-progessive rock that I do love, where the sounds are creating a visual score, and Wintersleep are masters of it.

They're masters of creativity, too; as a tour trailer for this current tour, they requested and received fan shot video from their 2012 tour, and curated a gorgeous, startling video of live footage for Hello Hum's 'Resuscitate'. Wintersleep Releases LP2, Hits the Road with matt pond PA

The Juno award-winning band, Wintersleep, just released its new album, New Inheritors, and is set to hit the road with matt pond PA starting this Friday for a four-week U.S. tour. In addition, the band has two confirmed dates with The Hold Steady in Philadelphia and New York this October.

Winter has never really been that good to me. For the past seven days, I have been content to stay indoors and only acknowledge the snow, the cold, the blanket of grey through my balcony window. Winter and I are not friends.

However, I don't always mind the inevitable disposition-altering effects that this season has on me. After the holidays, I instantly become more melancholy, more reflective, more interested in keeping to myself. There is music for when you feel lonely, and music for when you want to feel alone.  I think there is a big difference.

Thankfully, I discovered a perfect album to accompany my many recent evenings of contemplation. Paul Murphy of the Juno award-winning band, Wintersleep, has joined his brother, Michael, to create the duo Postdata and a collection of deeply personal songs destined for winter's slow and sleepy progressions. The self-titled album will be self-released on January 26, 2010.

The song, "Tobias Grey," is a hushed realization of life's tendency to stall out, to cling to unchanging weather. But, as Murphy himself writes, "Sometimes we have to close our eyes to see."  So, taking that advice, I plan to spend the next months in welcome immobility, anticipating the newness that will come with spring.
